Easy 10-Minute Dog Halloween Costume Ideas: Part I

Have you already picked out a costume and decorated your house for Halloween? Why not involve your pooch in Halloween dress up and have fun together? Here is an idea for quick and easy dog Halloween costume of a classic ghost!

Please think safety when dressing up your dog in homemade pet costumes. The costume should fit neither too tight, so your dog’s movements are not confined, nor too loose, so he does not trip over the costume. Not all dogs are fine with wearing a costume, so if your dog does not like it, take off the costume immediately.

For this project, your dog would need to be tolerant and patient.

What you need:

  • a white bet-sheet;
  • scissors;
  • a marker
  • an elastic band
  • a needle and white thread.

Instructions on how to make dog costume:

This costume covers the dog’s face. It has cut openings for nose and mouth, eyes and ears. The white sheet lies freely on the dog’s back, hanging down halfway to the ground. Elastic bands attach the sheet to the dog at neck and chest.

Have your dog standing up right. Put the bed-sheet over your dog, also covering his head. Mark the spots for cutting out the nose, eyes and ears (be careful when marking spots for eyes). Just mark the center of the spot and note, how large each hole needs to be.

You need to attach the ghost costume to your dog at his neck and his chest. Note the spots on opposite sides of your dog’s neck and chest (about in the middle). Note the length of elastic band pieces required. Note how much bed sheet is necessary to look good on your dog, allow the bed-sheet to hang to the ground not more than halfway.

Take the bed-sheet off your dog. From the inside, sew elastic band to the relevant spots on the sheet. Cut out openings for the nose and mouth, eyes and ears. You need to put on this costume first through front paws, then over the dog’s head.

Your dog halloween costume is ready! Have a frightfully spooky Halloween!

Need Unique and Original Ghost-Themed Costume Ideas?

I am going to be attending a Halloween Party out of state during my vacation. I leave on Wednesday October 24th and I still haven’t come up with a unique costume idea. The theme is ghosts (it can be anything related to that theme). I am stumped, I can’t come up with anything that I really like (and that is cost efficient). Any ideas?

I completely understand your dilemma! The sheet with the holes is done to death (no pun intended), and budget is a factor. So what you need is something unique and creative. To find something, you will have to think outside the box when it comes to the “Ghost” theme.

Here are some suggestions I came up with:
– Go as the ghost of yourself. Come up with a story about how you died and why you haven’t crossed over. Give yourself some ghostly features (pale, cause of death, spiderwebs, etc.) and be a fabulously dead you!
– Go as Patrick Swayze (from the movie, Ghost) hehe.
– Go as some other costume’s ghost (i.e. pirate ghost, witch ghost, prisoner ghost, psycho ghost, etc.). This is a great way to reuse old costumes, and it is therefore really inexpensive.
– Go as Space Ghost.
– Go as a famous ghost from literature like Jacob Marley, Christmas Past/Present/Future (all from A Christmas Carol… another holiday!) or Banquo (from Macbeth). You may run into a problem with finding costume pieces for some ghostly characters if you are on a budget.
– You could go as the ghost of someone famous who just recently died (Anna Nicole Smith) or who you wish was dead (Michael Jackson or Bush, as someone else said). Alternatively, you could go as the ghost of a famous person’s career (BRITTANY SPEARS!); just dress as they were when they were famous, but make it ghostly (or not!) haha.
– You could always go as the ghost hunter, DEATH, or the psychic (if that isn’t stretching the theme too much for you).

That’s what I came up with, but just remember to think outside the box!
Happy Partying!
